Elisa Macellari is an Italo-Thai illustrator born and raised in Perugia and based in Milan. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, she moved to Turin, where she worked as cultural mediator at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. In Milan she worked as an assistant with the Suzy Shammah contemporary art gallery.
Since 2012 she has been a freelance illustrator for national and foreign publishing houses and magazines. Her clients include The New York Times, Women's Health UK, Cartoon Network, Il Sole 24 Ore, 7 Corriere della Sera, Donna Moderna, Mondadori, Feltrinelli, Einaudi, Giunti, Piemme, Zanichelli, Rubbettino, Il Battello a Vapore, J-pop, Linus, Plansponsor, Planadviser, Donna Magazin, viction: ary, Nobrow Press, Bandcamp, Cancer World Magazine, Razor & Tie Records, Langosteria, Karimoku New Standard, Woodyzoody, B&B Italia and Realtime.
In 2020 she published the graphic-biography "Kusama, obsessions, love and art" published by Centauria Libri. In 2018 she published the graphic novel "Papaya Salad" published by BAO Publishing, translated in France by Steinkis, in Spain by Liana Editorial and in the United States by Dark Horse Comics. In 2017 she won the Gold Medal of Authors of Images in the publishing category and in 2019 the Silver Medal in the comics category.
